Frequently Asked

What makes Trex Transcend different from Trex Select?

Transcend is the flagship of the Trex line. Three key upgrades over Select: full-surround capping (Select is capped on three sides, Transcend is capped on all four), deeper tropical hardwood streaking and color variation that mimics exotic lumber, and a wider color palette with eight options including the rich Vintage and Tropical collections. Select is the best-value capped composite - Transcend is the best-looking.

Is Trex Transcend worth the price difference over Select?

At $65/sqft versus $45/sqft, Transcend is about 45 percent more than Select installed. The value case is purely aesthetic and resale. If you are building a deck on a high-end Marvin, Weddington, or Ballantyne home where the outdoor-living photo matters for resale, Transcend consistently earns back the difference at sale time. For a family backyard where the deck is functional more than showpiece, Select gets you 90 percent of the benefit at a friendlier price.

What is full-surround capping?

The cap is the hard polymer shell that blocks water, UV, and stains. Trex Select has the cap on three sides (top and two edges) and an uncapped scalloped bottom. Trex Transcend has the cap on all four sides, which matters most on board ends where water can otherwise wick into the core, and on exposed edges around picture-frame borders and stairs where end-grain would otherwise show.

How does Transcend hold up to pool chemistry and heat?

The Transcend cap is chemically inert - chlorine, salt, sunscreen, and grill splatter do not damage it. Heat retention in direct sun runs 5 to 10 degrees above ambient in light colors (Rope Swing, Gravel Path) and 15 to 25 degrees in dark colors (Lava Rock, Spiced Rum). For a pool deck in full sun we recommend lighter colors unless the area is shaded.

Can you build curved or patterned Transcend decks?

Yes. Transcend boards can be heat-formed to curved layouts using a commercial heat box, and the richer color palette opens up picture-frame borders, diagonal inlays, and two-tone patterns that look stunning. Most homeowners start with a standard layout, but if you want a curved bump-out over a garden or a contrasting picture-frame border, we can spec it during the design visit.
